Ron Bimrose

Born in Berkeley, California and raised in that area, Ron Bimrose showed an early interest in art and natural history. He wrote and illustrated his own bird book in the third grade. His interest in art never waned though in high school it was not a suggested career path. His travels brought him, for what he thought was a temporary stop, to Arizona in order to take photography courses with Allen Dutton at Phoenix College. That experience led, eventually, to a Masters of Fine Art at Arizona State University. While working on his Masters of Fine Arts degree Bimrose began to combine photography and printmaking in both etchings and monotypes. The mix of drawing, painting, collage and photo-collage that is what Bimrose is most known for grew out of that time.

 

Ron works with many media: drawing, painting, collage, printmaking and photography often in various combinations. The work often involves contrary or incongruous imagery. The challenge of combining  contrary materials and images allows for a rich realm of associations and connections done with a poetic sensibility. Frequently the conundrum of being both a part and apart from nature underlies the narrative in his work.

 

Ron Bimrose has had exhibitions with his photography, printmaking and mixed-media painting. He currently teaches printmaking at the Mesa Arts Center. Bimrose has been represented by a number of Arizona galleries: the Hal Martin Fogel, Elaine Horowitch, G2 and Tilt. His work is represented in many collections both public and private including: The Baseball Hall of Fame, Cooperstown, N.Y., American University, Washington, D.C., Mesa Contemporary Art Museum, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, the Plains Art Museum, Moorhead, MN among others. Bimrose is also represented in Photographic Possibilities, Focal Press, 1990 and Hayden's Ferry Review #56, 2015. In 1996 Bimrose was awarded a Visual Arts Fellowship from the Arizona Commission on the Arts.
